Thread: suse is crap on finding cdrom

  1. #11
While gore may be putting this harshly, he has a point. You can't blame an OS for user configuration error, or even just being too new to fully know how to even configure it yet. Do I hold that against you? Of course not, we all start somewhere. But please return that kindness by not dumping on an OS that takes a bit to learn. Learn how to solve the problem so that you come out with knowledge instead of anger.

If you both can provide much more accurate information on error I bet we can show you exactally how to fix it. Tell us what your fstab says (/etc/fstab) and what your current computer configuration is hardware wise. ( I already know one of you posted it, but I saw two people here with the same problem).

Do understand, that asking for help and support on a pirated Suse distrobution is about as effective as calling Microsoft Tech support for assistance in setting up Longhorn

We will still however, do our best.

I'm not a Senior member, my title says BOFH, not senior member. And when you come here all like "Ohh I'll dump SUSE" And now I find out you've used it a whole 3 weeks... Man, go ahead. Giving up after 3 weeks because it's to much to do.... Sad bastard.
Gore, this is pathetic, Now once you have a fellow suse-tryout-fellow, you beat him into to the ground. YOU, you dumped Gentoo after 3 days because you couldn't handle it. Always you say RTFM, use google, open a book. Never but never i've seen you actually help someone with commandlines, with pure info. I'm getting sick of your "so-called" OS - l33tn3ss, while you only get your reviews from Google yourself.

Sure you've tried alot OS-es, the installs themselves aren't difficult ... learning an OS in depth is more what an OS - guru should do and know. For.ex. MsMittens, Jinx, poohsuntzu , those are linux (OS) - specialists ...

    Mr. gore

I appreceate some sticky's on your name. I saw your artcle moreoerless ad about suse. I got ****ing influenced by the way you praise suse,So I kick out mandrake10 CD that came free with LINUX magazine. It looked good detect everything including internet connection easilyand almost everything that comes with it wasn't bad. I just hate mandrake dunno why,If I had to take mandrake as a linux OS, touch wood,I wouldn't be learning linux. I have a pile of CD's (most are copied) of other linux distros. Now for the moment I will stick with suse.

Everything is okay except the CD things with suse, sooner or later I should figure out while I already have windows 2000 on the other partition, above /fstab should say that. I know atleast basic things like there are /,boot and swap partition on linux. And I am aware that we should run as an user.

I am not expecting as much as you said,I know this forum has got to do with security.I have read the tutorials by you and they are all good.Yeah there are many other fourums and I hope I haven't done that bad to post some linux related problem and I am aware that which section I am posting this. I am also network and security student and yep, a beginner.

I have read many post here and almost every old members looks linux guru's specially you. Whatever thanks for your suggestion,

    Pooh sun tzu,

My current configuration hardwarewise is as follows.

    pentium 4, 400Mhz BUS, 2.2 Ghz
    768MB DDR RAM (PC 2100)
    60GB MAXTOR 7200rpm HD (35GB for win2k and 25 for SUSE)
    SAMSUNG CD R/RW/DVDR
    3,5" FLOPPY DRIVE
    3COM NIC (WITH DSL CONNECTION)
Intel onboard video chip with 64MB VRAM

    Thanks.

Bla, the thing that pissed Gore of here, and pisses me off too, is the 'bashing' of suse, because you cant use it. You start a thread called "suse is crap on finding cdrom", well i would call it 'im crap, cause i cant get suse to find my cdrom'. IF you cant find it in 'SuSE'... need i say more?

You're right, I suck and don't know **** about anything. I gave up on Gentoo...Even though the install CD is 2 feet from me and a box is about to be formatted, because it was....To hard... Not because the user base are bigger dicks than me, not because to me it seemed like something I could do with the already running Slackware and Free BSD set up I already have, and not because it didn't make sence to keep it when I had Slack and BSD already, yea, I gave up because it was hard...

Pooh and Instronics picked up on why I was pissy, you've known me longer, why didn't you?

Now back on topic, you've got a Samsung CD-DRIVE, normally I give the full answer on how to do this, but since I don't know anything, I'm just giving you a link to the hardware compatibility list for SUSE Linux so you can look. I wouldn't know how to understand the link anyway, because I suck.

Reminds me of the quote from x Acidreign x:

"YOU can't understand it, so the MANUAL is obviously the stupid one, my mistake." (Or the OS)

Heh, on numerous time's and on occasion's, I've seen gore help quite a bit of people actually. And I have to say, I see his point. Don't call an OS crap because you can't configure something. It's that simple. If you can't do it, why place blame on something else. I would have known someone like gore would have come to the defense of SuSe simply because he know's his **** about SuSe and it's installation (no? check the two tutorial's he did on them). Plus he saw that someone discredited an OS and not the user's lack of knowledge on installing the cd-rom drive's.

Oh, you might be asking why I'm posting this. I'm coming to the defense of gore much like Shrekkie, rajunpl, etc came to the defense of Nokia. That simple, really

pooh sun tzu, what does that mean? A pirated Suse distribution? The thread title was not the best, and this is not a Suse Tech Support/Microsoft Tech Support Forum. Just curious.

Oh yea, I am not comming to the defense of anyone, just inquizitive(sp?)

He's saying that if you called up Microsoft and asked them for help with a pirated copy of Windows they sure as hell wouldn't help either. And Spyder, thanks.

Not sure what's going on but Shrekkie USED to be a buddy of mine. I haven't said a word to him in a while but he's just...I don't know, or care. I have enough problems in my life than to be playing inspector gore with what the **** is up people's asses on here too.

News flash, if you don't like me, blow me. And choke on the load.

Acting like I'm the bad guy because someone had a friend copy an OS, never read a manual, and then comes here asking every question answered in the manual. Like it's my fault you can't buy software or read. I gave enough links to not only learn about Linux, but to see if your hardware is even compatible. I even gave out the secret of turning PCM up in Alsamix so you can hear sound.

Did anyone say thanks to me? No, did anyone reply and even say to try a thing I said? No. Did the poster of this thread say thanks for even attempting to help? No. But still, even without a thank you for this stupid question/thread, I instead come back and see him and Nokia decided my attitude was bad and that I'm an *******, and that ....you know this reminds of of something.

I saw a tech support log where someone e-mailed tech support saying they got stolen equipment, and that they were having trouble making it work and asked for help. This is all on Computer Stupidities, which is where this thread belongs.

****, I may post it myself:

"I got a pirated copy of SUSE Linux, and I have never read anything about it, so I installed it and now I want you all to hold my hand and give me all the answers instead of me reading how to on my own".

That would pretty much sum this **** up. But hey, don't get mad, what do I know right?

I'm just an ******* who doesn't know how to do anything but install an OS that's already easy to install right? No one ever said my Slackware tutorial was great because I made it easy to install when they thought it was to hard right? As soon as I find one I can't install, which so far is none, I'll take that into consideration. Free BSD, Slackware, Solaris, DOS, no manuals for them, but I've not only installed them, but written tutorials on how to.

And as for my thread being nothing but "a ****ing SUSE ad"...When is the last time YOU contributed **** to this place other than a question because you don't have any manuals with anything because you've never paid for the **** you use, or even read manuals online?

I really like that quote made earlier too : "It's not my fault I'm an idiot spraying off gross stupidity, the MANUAL is the stupid ass".... Heh.
