    Attack through DVD's

Ever since I heard about wireless DVD players, I've had quite a few concerns about the security involved with them.
I searched around trying to find anything related to networks being compromised because of the DVD players. I found nothing but a link to a site that was selling 802.11b (doh!) DVD players. Most Wireless players are 802.11g and from what I've read, setup is a breeze. So wouldn't that possibly leave security holes?

Does anybody have the pleasure of having a wireless dvd player? If so, got any input?
Also, since the dvd player communicates w/ the network, couldn't a dvd possibly run code to make a backdoor into the network?

    thx

[off topic]: I found this awesome tut on how to set up your own beowulf cluster, thought it might interest some that don't know about this.

You mean transmit the data from a dvd player to a tv screen?
    Something like this?

Maybe if your neighbor has a receiver... they can get free pr0n?
Just hopefully not pr0n you've made yourself?!

I wouldn't consider it any more risk than any other wireless device. As long as your AP is configured properly... the DVD device would have to know the network exists... , the SSID, the WEP keys, MAC access control lists... etc.
Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.

No, I mean the ones like this: http://www.wi-fitechnology.com/displ...de=thread.html
The dvd player can play videos that reside on your PC.

[edit] I also found this one http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1150369,00.asp

I don't know but it sounds sweet! If it is less than 200 I might get one. I wonder if one is able to add other codecs to it....say maybe ac3 or xvid.

    Lansing..

I have a Philips 737 DvD player with DivX(r) support (also XviD)
    http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...00_pss_eng.pdf
It rocks !! Realy great quality playback (TV has slower refresh and more "afterburn" then a PC monitor, so the codec artefacts are less visible)
I read on DivX.com that there is another philips that does the same http://www.divx.com/hardware/detail.php?p=7

The difference is, I do have to burn to CD or DvD..

I also heared some good stuff about the KISS player http://www.kiss-technology.com/
    (uC linux based)

    [back on topic]

I think a lot of those technologies could become troublesome in the future (wifi and bluetooth hardware etc)
Usualy there is no real check on who it is they are communicating with..

Sounds like fun, installing an "update" that lists and transmits the played movies (spyware)
