Windows XP
Got windows XP on my system but have misplace the Piece of paper that has the registration key on it. Quick query is that is it possible to view from within XP your registration key ?? if so how do i do it ? .
thanks as i know at some stage im going to need the registration key when i have to reinstall windows when it messes up like it usually does every few months.

Registration or activation ? Im sorry but the registration key can be found on almost any website on the internet now ! www.google.com;) It it's the activation number, that one can be found on the back of your computer ! Anyways::

The key "that can be found on the back of your computer" is the product key.
The attached program (Belarc System Advisor) gives you your Windows key, plus all the other keys of all software on your box. Or you could just get them from the registry

The key "that can be found on the back of your computer" is the product key.
Which you can use to activate your copy of windows. Thats why i called it activation key !

You don't use that key to activate Windows. The product key is the key that you enter at the beginning of the Windows installation. It's probably used by MS to activate your product, though (along with hardware profile, registration key,...).
And then there's the registration key (which you can find by right-clicking My Computer, under the General Tab where it says Registered to: ).

I was refering to the key that i have to enter when i first install windows XP, ( the key that appears on the documentation)

If it is not on a sticker on the back of your equipment (bottom for a laptop) then use the program Negative gave you or use this (see attachment) for just your XP Application (Product) key.

You are in the UK...............just telephone M$ and they will give you the number that you require...........you will not get to talk to a nice young lady, just a machine..............or maybe I am being discriminated against?

maybe its beacuse i use a cracked version of windows xp and the serial number has been used couple of million times before so they ask me for a "valid" number, thats when i entered the one from the back of my computer to activate windows, not install!
