    Angry Undeletable file

I wasn't sure which forum to put this question in (and apologize to any who disagree with my choice) so I thought here was the best bet.

I have a file that refuses to be deleted or renamed. I haven't downloaded it (wittingly anyway) but it is there none the less, it is a video for winamp and the title of it makes me believe it is pornographic in nature. When I try to delete it I get the message that it cannot be deleted because it is either in use or write protected. It is not in use and I haven't been able to figure out a means of deletion.

I know someone here will have the answer ( I have never been disappointed by AO users)
and I am requesting that answer.
If it needs to be known - my OS is windows XP

    Thanks.............

Did you try restarting and then trying to delete it, sometimes another process uses it that you don't know about ! Did you try deleteing it via command prompt ?

Reboot in safe mode and delete it. It is probably keeping a process open so that you can not delete it. Also make sure you have the correct permission to delete it.

One more thing disable the antivirus and delete that file, if it happens then probably you had some trojan or a virus.

Yes I am the sole user.

It is an absolutely disgusting file - Name: '081 sex with dog.mpeg'
And I don't want it on my computer!

I have made sure that windows media player is not opening it in a preview window.

I CAN NOT GET RID OF IT!!!!!

The error message says: Cannot delete file 081 sex with dog.mpeg: Access is denied

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use
    .

I am not a computer dunce nor am I a computer guru but I cannot get this thing out of my PC.

Try opening up windows explorer. Then click up on Tools ---> Folder Options ---> click on the tab that says view and make sure the box that says "Hide file extensions for known file types" is not checked. My thoughts are there could be an .exe or something after the .mpeg.

It probably has the .exe extention, but starting in safemode should alow you to delete it. Also try disconnecting from the internet if you are using broadband before doing it. Some virii are designed to provie an entrance to your computer when iti s online but shut down if no connection is detected. so do this in safemode find the file and delete it.
Everyone is going to die, I am just as good of a reason as any.
