As for google, I've run this against webferret and it almost appears to me they are the same, I like webferret becasue it runs as a seperate program, rather than in IE.
If the results were nearly the same you may try the Google Deskbar. It sits to the right of the Start Menu and left of the system tray (see screenshot http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html) and you can Google stuff there. I personally prefer my results displayed in the web-browser (I think this is ideal for the tabbed browsing Mozilla supports), but if you prefer them in a seperate window there's a neat feature about the Deskbar. It offers a mini viewer (http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/he...ns_viewer.html) feature which displays the Googled results there instead of your webbrowser. You can easily hide it and then unhide it. http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html

/edit - I see now that somebody has already posted links to a tool allowing Google searches from outside the web-browser. Oh well, but I'm gonna keep mine posted just as an alternative.
