The reason I'm so down on certs is because the Govt. has a bogus program called "Certification & Accreditation". Basically, if you are a practicing professional, they require you to get certain certs when you hit certain Govt. grade levels. I have a **** pile of certs of my own but I do not believe that they have anything to do with how I perform or what I know. I also see people who have the same certs and they can't tell me the difference between a stateful and connectionless protocol.

Certs do not carry the weight they used to. A classic example is when the MCSE was hot, the radio adds were pitching salaries in the 100k range. By the time it was rated as crap (less than a year later) salaries were no longer mentioned in the advertisements. Trust me, corporate (or any other organization) HR groups have become very wise when it comes to certs and how to rate IT applicants. HR recruiters are not the blind donkeys of the late 90s who couldn't tell a qualified applicant from a house plant. Things have changed folks, it's time to get with the program. Experience is what is hot right now with hiring managers. The cost of ramping up IT professionals is staggering. They want a boxed solution to their personnel needs and that means that they would rather have you put your time in elsewhere and come in to their group ready to hit the ground running.

As for internet certs, well, if you've read this thread you already know what I think about them.

I'm done with this thread. It's going nowhere.
