Boot Problems with Slack 10 Solved

Installing Slackware 10.0

We will start with links.

I advise you download from linuxiso.org

Get both isos.

(you can get the sources if you wish)
Next use your favorite burning program to burn the iso images. Make sure you burn the images.

Put the iso-1 in your cd drive. reboot.

Oh darn it doesnt boot.

Well there are several reasons this could have happened, the two most obvious are:

1. you didn't burn the image correctly.

2. Your bios settings aren't correct, ie you are booting from the harddrive first.

However, other things could be the problem. You may need three beautiful little floppies called:

boot disc, root disc 1, and amazingly enough root disc 2.

for the boot disc => ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...0.0/bootdisks/

(i use bare.i)

for the root discs => ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...0.0/rootdisks/

get install 1 and install 2.

you will probably need a program called rawrite to do this stuff.

(for windows i recommend rawwritewin its a gui and a bit more user friendly than the dos version, you can grab it here => http://mirror.israel.net/pub/suse/i3...s/rawwritewin/ )

Now if you choose the non-gui dos version that is available at ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-10.0/

simply execute the .exe file, make sure your floppies are formatted! (Target drive should be your floppy drive, then tell it what file you want it to write to )

Basically thats it, this tut, although short, sweet, and simple, will save alot of people some time when attempting to install slackware 10. Or basically any slack distro.

This is really good for people looking to install slak, when i installed an older slak about 3 years it took me ages to work out, but eventually i got there, I hope some newbie benifits from this.
