    how secure is dish internet

hey...my friend is moveing out to the country and is going to get dish internet....and that got me thinking....how secure is dish internet
from what i know it would be almost impossiable for them to have a direct connection with each house...they probably do spot beaming...but...if someone knew what they were doing...couldnt they come up with a new kind of war driving...be able to sniff out packets anyware....get what im saying?

    example

    dish in sky
    |
    _______|__________
    | | |
    home users are down here

couldnt someone come in here between the home users and the dish and see what is going in and out?..they most liely have encryption but not all encryption is perfect

any thoughts? ideas? something i didnt think about or missed?...please share

since a lot of companies use satelite communications, you will get the same security as they.
I can tell you: its possible to sniff, but isnt for anyone. You need special equip to get that frequency.

Satelite Internet has a problem: lag. Since packets must travel to space and come back 2 times (1 to ISP and 1 for the return packet) its not design to gaming. You will lag a lot trying to play. Satelite has at least a .5 delay. so think about before buy it.

However its good for other applications, such as file transfer and heavy transfer

If he gets a good 56k link on Dial up he will be much happier than with Dish.

nah, 56k will be damn faster than 2mb on dish, for gaming.
It why i was tolding about lag.
Trust me, you cant play on dish

I use to play Diablo using company international link (vsat). Its SO better using dial up.

Dont buy a dish for gaming.

I tried playing America's Army on my Grandparent's Sattelite Connection... I thought it would be fine considering how fast it seemed when doing long haul downloads and surfing... For example downloading AA (800mb) but I started playing and haven't seen lag that bad since my days on AOL which was oh.... 8 years ago?

yes, downloading is good. surfing is good.
    normal usage is good.
but applicatiions that use real time communications:
    i.e. games, VoIP
will get a **** performance on dish

My personal take on Dish is lag was steady around 500 and often spiked to 2000. Web surfing is faster on dialup because by the time the data burst game the page was already loaded. You know I would look for another wireless solution. There are new one's popping up all over. Is he 10 miles from a city. Here are some examples:

    http://www.codenet.net/services/wireless.asp

These solution are better than dish, yeah I am biased.
