vxd file error

one pc inside my pc is using win98
and suddenly when i open this pc
an error suddenly appeared

c:\windows\system\vshinit.vxd

cannot find a deivce that may be needed to run windows apllication.
the windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists.

If you deleted this file on purpose try uninstalling the associated application ini its unsinstalled or setup program

If you stilll want to use the application associated with this device file,try reinstalling that application. to replace the missing file.

It's been a while since I've use 98. I'm not sure if it's really part of windows or not but...

You can use extract to extract the file from the cabinetfiles (win98_02.cab etc.).
Type extract /? to see the exact options required.

You might try this to.

WARGING: THIS IS IS A EDIT TO YOUR REGISTRY PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP FIRST.

Click on Start-> Run -> and type Regedit in the box

Double click on Hkey_Local_Machine > System > CurrentControlSet > Services > Vxd > right click on Vshinit.vxd folder and delete it.

close the registry editor and Re-boot the computer

See if u get the error again

bring up the System.ini screen by clicking Start, click Run and type in SYSEDIT. Click on System.ini file, scroll down the entries and if you find VSHINIT.VXD, type REM at front of the line.

Most likely you will have to go to the Registry, i.e., click on Start, click on Run and type in REGEDIT. You should now see the Registry window. You should then export the Registry by clicking on the File menu, give it a name, e.g., registry1.reg and export this file to your hard drive or to a floppy.
Next, click on the Edit menu; click Find and type in VSHINIT.VXD and search for it. At each find, delete the file then depress the F3 to continue the search. When no more new ones are found, exit the Registry. Restart the machine.
