Since it has been answered 1000 times.

Basivly: Download ad-aware, update it, download spybot, update it, scan your computer ....

Ok i would recommened downloading Browser Hijack Blaster, as it will stop any programs, spyware, malware from changing your Browser settings..

Running silently in the background, Browser Hijack Blaster only springs into action when an attempt is made. It watches and protects the following items:
IE Homepage, IE Default Page, IE Search Page, BHOs
    Download it here.

Well you can start off by getting rid of the adware on your computer

Get hijackthis! and something thats not as obvious as regprot but works just as good. *Edited* And correct me if I'm wrong... but from the URL, Browser Hijack Blaster looks like its only out to protect agianst changes within the browser... and not agianst the modification of winsock and a bunch of various startup methods.

I also think that Spybot S&D, AdAware, & (ect)... is tottaly crap. It's nothing but downgraded alternatives to AV software. I find that most of the time they never even detect anything at all... much of which my AV detects when spybot S&D, AdAware, and other things don't. But even then alot of times AV fails to do just that also, so in the end 99% of the time I usually end up removing everything manually.

This looks like some ad-ware/spyware is on your system. They will sometimes change your homepage to something bogus. Do you bychance have ad-aware and/or spybot s&d installed? If not, I suggest downloading them, updating them , and then performing a scan in safemode on your system. These two programs can be found at these links:

The best thing to do is go to the adware/malware forum and read some of the threads related to your problem.

The go on the web and get yourself Spybot S&D, AdAware, and CWShredder ( all of which are easily found via google and are free). Run the first 2 in safe mode, the 3rd one from your main windows operating system. Then go to TrendMicro Systems Housecall, a free online virus scanner and let that run.

If that doesn't work, then check my bookmarks for the latest manual removale tutorials by Groovicus and follow those.

Then if you are still having a problem.....come back and tell us about it.

Edit: Damn I must be really slow, there were no answers when I began mine.....now look at them.

Well, my view is as follows:

moxnix has given a very succinct summary of what to do.

I do not agree with that, the spyware/adware applications are quite "specialist" in their own right. They won't spot viruses, and AV software generally won't spot adware.

About 3 months ago I workrd on a laptop that was running very badly, freezing etc. Updated AV detected and removed 4 viruses...............AdAware and SpyBot S&D detected and removed a further 102 instances of adware/spyware.

Now, you can remove this stuff manually............just try to get a customer to pay you for the time

    My advice:

    1. Use the tools as suggested in moxnix's summary.
    2. Download and run hijackthis! as suggested by TheSpecialist and post the log here (please attach it as a .txt file).
    3. Then you are down to manual removal, as TheSpecialist pointed out.

My logic is that there is no merit in doing mundane tasks manually when you have free or already paid for tools that will do them for you with at least a 95% success rate.

As an "alternative" to RegProt, you might like to try WinPatrol from BillP Studios, although I personally use both together. As they work somewhat differently, they do not clash.

    Cheers

hey its a normal problem those uses internet frequnetly, there are more chance of hitting ur comp with any virus like adware/spyware. these viruses r notrmally didn't detect by macafee or norton. its good u either go for online scanning(like "house call" go to google and search for house call there, there is option for scanning through house call) or download adware or spyware software from net.

If you stick to reputed sites.......... don't download free or shareware or suspecious software third party or Cracked/hacked Versons......... chances of your getting them are slim.

    Or use anything except IE

    This is very true.

Whilst surfing for porn can lead you into trouble, there are plenty of none porn, none dodgy sites that can hijack IE.

Second Comes Bundeled with Illegal Software
No, with ellegal software you normaly get a free remote access trojan or other backdoor bundled with it. ................Legal software that comes free will probably have some sort of spy/adaware bundled with it.
