    samspade

While I was reading my course book (ie..networking) I saw a recommendation link http://samspade.org/ and it is used as very handy tool for net admin. I went in that site didn't know where to start.

I was trying to go through FAQ, didn't bother. I like the way hard working guys on AO explains it. Can anyone light my head pls? I am so curious about it.

Did you download it or not?

If you did, try putting a IP address or url in the address feild and playing around with the various options available to you.

    download it 7:43 pm

SamSpade is a collection of tools for tracking spammers put together with a GUI. if your concerned with doing well in your course you should learn to use the individual tools that it contains without the GUI. learn to do a zone transfer and test smtp servers for yourself first (do you know what a zone file is?). learn all about ping, tracert, whois and dig. read the smtp RFCs. samspade is a handy tool for one that already knows how to use these tools or for someone that has no need to know how to use them but just needs the results. if you know what these tools are and how to use them you'll have no questions on how to use it. its self explanitory. if you dont your wasting your own time.

Spade basically takes all the basic networking tools (ping, traceroute, nslookup, etc..) and roles them into one fairly easy GUI. Neat little tool, but you can do most everything at any given CLI, be it Windows or *nix. Granted, *nix usually has a bit more to play with.
