I can not press how bad it would be to install this one. This is the checked build release of SP2. While it is the final release it is also meant for debugging purposes. This means in each file there are extra megs of debugging information meant for programmers and testers. This means slower usage, larger download, and more disk space being used. I HIGHLY recommend using the below link instead if you choose to not wait for it to be avalaible on windows update (which would actually work/run even faster than the larger one linked below, not to mention being a MUCH smaller download)

I would say so, yes, but wait for it to be released on windows update rather than downloading the entire SP2 manually. It isn't just about increased network security, but the windows core itself now has a lot of security against memory attacks, buffer overflows, and other exploit methods that a singular computer on the internet is vunerable against. Let's also not forget that a good part of windows libraries and executables have been recompiled to take more advantage of processor features, and thus a slight increase in preformance.

The minor errors from the new ICF (windows firewall) can be overcome by turning the damn thing off and installing a different firewall.

Just FYI

Microsoft will send out Windows XP SP2 through the Automatic Updates (AU) delivery mechanism in Windows XP. Microsoft have confirmed that tomorrow (25th A.M. US time) is the official release day and XP will automatically start downloading this latest update.

A note about Windows XP SP2
You do not need to install SP1
before installing SP2....
It appears that SP2 has has SP1 built in....
I tried it today on a clean install of XP Pro.

Completely correct. Just a heads up, all service packs are always cumulative. That means that way back when Sp1 was released, included all the updates for Windows XP up until the point SP1 was released. The same applies for SP2. All the fixes ever made for windows up until the point SP2 was released is included in Sp2, even including all the fixes SP1 brought.
