how to remove w32 gibe f
Hello everyone,
At the moment i'm stuck with one of mine pc's . I have been running Sophos 385 and it still finds the virus w32 gibe f. Because it's in a mailbox it's not possible for Sophos to remove the virus.
The os is w98 and the email program is outlook express.
Does anyone knows a different way to get rid of this virus?
TIA

Not sure I understand completely, but have you tried deleting the bad email from Outlook? Further, is your AV app completely up to date with it's info files?

Use the tool Djm stated in Safe mode, delete all your temp files. Delete the mail where you got the virus from.
Update your computer with latest patches, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Use a firewall. www.zonelabs.com
try AVG from www.Grisoft.com

I have been downloading the tool from the symantic website and used it to remove the virus. After running the tool it says that it didn't find a virus. Then i did another run of sophos 3.85 and the virusscanner says it found W32/Gibe F.
So what am i missing in the picture?

Try a scan at "Housecall", the link MilitantEidolon gave you. Sophos could be giving you a False Positive.

Thanks for the input. I ve been running also a removal tool from Sophos but it didn't recognized the virus. Sophos stil finds the virus in the mailbox. So i removed the file from the mailbox which contained the virus. So i'm running sophos again and it looks like the virus is gone.
thx
