If it's a USB external drive, then you don't have to safely "remove" it from the system at all. All USB devices, once installed into the OS (XP here), can be removed and plugged back in with impunity. Each time you reconnect it, it'll say "Found new hardware" but because it already has the drivers installed, you won't be prompted to put anything else in.

No need to do anything more than just unplugging it from the system and plugging it back in when you want it back online.
We the willing, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long that we are now qualified to do just about anything with almost nothing.

Wait... Your talking about basically mounting and unmounting correct?

Not physically disconnecting it, just terminating the connection?

    hi,Winston

Not physically disconnecting it, just terminating the connection?
    okah,the connection is terminated.
in that situation i seem got onlye these ways if i want to add a file to the hard disk:
    1- using add hardware.
2- disconnect the wire and reconnect it again.
    is there any way else?
