I know you didn't say they were monsters, but it did seem that way. Then again I'm tired as hell. Heh.

Anyway, I tink some of the suggestions I made could be steps to making it better. I try to make good posts when I'm not working or at school, and I do what I can to keep it entertaining. Like I said I really don't care if someone is laughing with or at me, as long as they laugh.

The papers I've been working on now are in my opinion very good, and can help with content for AO, and anyone who has read them has said they were very good. I also asked people who don't like me to read them as they would try harder to look for errors in the information than people who like me. I think that was a good choice, and so far only one error was found in it by Ht-Regz, and it wasn't misinformation, more of a bad typo on my part.

I've let Negative look at them too, and he said that when I'm finished, it will be a big sticky, and I said OK. Neither are tutorials, but just papers. It's a small step to adding more information to AO.

I've also been thinking of doing a security paper on Physical security and Social Engineering. Maybe name it "Smashing the human stack for fun and profit" Or "Smashing through the front door for fun and profit" (An obvious play on a very good paper I think every "Hacker" has read:.

I haven't had time to even start it though. If more members did things like that, and enough started that up, then it would for sure add content that was useful, and not the **** on the front page, which to me is mostly tech support. AO isn't tech support, it's more a dicussion page for security and Computers and networking I think. But it has so much tech support crap on it that it's not funny.

and you can't neg anyone anymore. If someone makes a **** post and you neg them someone will jump to the rescue and say how you're an ******* or something similar. I know of a few right off the top of my head that I won't mention because this thread would go off topic in ten minutes with 30 people calling me a "meanie head" or some **** like that.

It may not be the members only who need to work at this, but it doesn't help when they don't do a thing to change it. JUPM could come around more often and try to be a Sheapard to the mindless sheep who post crap, but the members do need to do more than they are right now.

All i can see is AO becomming a Communist community, along with more flame wars and so on if we start 'steering' the users, as the only control we really have are AP's and our own voices. lol, the only way in which we can "effectivly" use those, is by constance (eg, flamewars again).

removing stupid posts etc will only increase the good posts and the really informative ones, which is good. but that will mean the 'lesser' good posts will replace the ones we neg. pushing the standard higher - putting as back to the same problem now just in a different context. you might so, well thats not gonna happen (cause we all enjoy the odd joke and silly post) and if thats not gonna happen - there has to be an INDESCRIMINATE item that deems which post is worthy and which is not. but there is no such as indescripancy :P and once again we are back to the same problem (again) in a different context.

All of course just my opinion.

-Maybe its just the natural evolution of the site. (you said evolution JP not mutation lol )

Flame wars are not uncommon and can be healthy if it does not get way out of hand. The thing when a thing called my dick is bigger than yours, people tend to side with those with a big dick and no brain. So sad.

the only answer is .. (as you cant stop people from joining up and posting lame ****) either we highten the quality of our posts along side the random shite that will come from new comers and some deros that hang around .. or make an invite only area/another site that is invite only (otherwise the same dicks will just go there) ........

I believe Unerror was an attempt at another site and that did not really get off the ground ... or did it?

So definately an invite only area like the addicts forum except you have to be accepted into it by a mod not just a certain amount of posts ..

This however has been discussed before (i think) im just rehashing as its an awesome idea. It will also give people something to work towards. which means they will post as much quality as they can to get invited to the "cool invite only area"

Yes, UnError was an attempt, but MB changed sites so much people did not like signing up anymore. Anyway, MB is trying, and is a nice kid.

the only problem with the Invited people, is that they will use the 'invite area only' primarily, and hyperthetically, creating two sites. the shitting useless site with brainless users and despos - the the AO we want back. which after this huge conversation and what-not will still not exist :/

To be on the top, you have to dare to make thing different. To stay on the top, you need even more to make thing different. JP was daring to make thing different. JupiterMedia is not.

Gore, you are probably in the only 10 that post content that JP would love to see on is site.

My personal view of AO is: Antionline is offline now. If you find more that 5 security thread active in a week, it’s your lucky week. You can know for sure what AO is when you look into all the thread; 40% are about tech-support, 35% about non-security related stuff, 20% are about AO (How to make it better, etc) and a 5% is about security.

JP, when you sold the site, what did you think Jupiter Media would do with it?

SDK: My theory is JP sold it to pursue other things in his life and career, but why he chose JupMedia from the other companies and individuals is beyond me. Also, a lot of the details of the deal as well as some of the agreements have not really been discussed... maybe because it is none of our damn business.

JP, I think the problem, overall, is simple: AO was what it was because it was underground. Now it's corporate. Corporate and underground are complete opposites, and I don't see how the now corporate AO could possibly go underground again. Underground is for the private sector. I think the best solution is for you to crank up a new site once that no-compete agreement ends. You can betcha I'll follow you over there (though I'm not much anything to contribute yet).

However, on the other hand, let me say that there is still a LOT of GOOD quality stuff in AO. I owe a TON of my learning to AO. I joined a while back when I was working an internship which placed me behind my first (very insecure) network. AO helped with that, helped me through my senior year as an MIS major, and has helped me by leaps and bounds as a network administrator for a very successful financial advising firm ever since graduation. Even though my knowledge dims pathetically compared to the other seniors here at AO, I can still confidently say that I'm now capable of doing the things I could only dream of being able to do prior to joining this community. I'm about to make some money on the side for the first time doing my own freelance work and building my own clientelle cleaning and securing machines, again thanks to AO, and one thread inparticular (that I wrapped up today, as a matter of fact).

So AO still has a lot of use to it, even if less than it once did. Believe me, for people like me just entering the field, this place is a friggin' LIFE SAVER. The guys here have helped me more times than I can count, and I really get a kick out of the fact that I'm starting to get to where I can give some pretty good advice myself from time to time.
