Performance legs and alerts service failing.
Hi everyone,
I am not sure if this should be under operational issues or security. As of 8:20 this morning my Performance Logs and Alerts service has started refusing to load. I am baffled as to why.
System: Dell 2500 Server, SBS2000 PDC, Win2k SP4, ISA 2000 SP2, Exchange 2000 SP4.
When I select Performance logs/alerts service and click start, it appears to load, then when you refresh it shows the service stopped. No errors are reported. It was operational when I came to work. No changes have been made to the server.
Server has been rebooted, and as far as I can tell all other services are running properly.
Anyone seen anything like this?
Thanks,
MrCoffee

Hi Steve,
Yeah I caught that too, but I don't think that is the problem in this case. I checked and yes, I am service packed, and since the logs on the PDC do not reply on any other system.... I dont think this is the answer.
But thanks!

Do you have any active logs or alerts running? You can't start that service from the computer management- services applet. You only start it using the performance log and alerts MMC. The service will start automatically when you start capturing a log, or running an alert.
So if you aren't running any perf logs or alerts, the service should not be running, and will not cause any problems.
