boot.ini errors?
hi guys
my friend has a pc with windows xp on it
recently when he switched on his pc, i found that it shows an error message on a blank screen :
boot.ini not found
loading from c:\windows\
and then the pc continues to load the OS and the computer comes to its normal working position but when i go to msconfig the tab of boot.ini is also missing!
so my first question is will it coz any trouble?
n my second question is how can i repair it without formatting(if we can)?
thanks for ur suggestions!!

If the computer has SP2 loaded and Windows is installed on the first primary partition of the first hard disk (primary master), put this into a file called boot.ini on C:\
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
If SP2 isn't loaded, try this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

EDIT: I cannot guarantee that this will work. It *should* but it might not.

and then it will lead you to administrator's password just your password or if you dont have any just press enter
try this command
