Change IP on Broadband WinXP
I had a lot of peole asking me how to change a cable/dsl IP without calling them or leaving the modem turned off for 2 days as i have read somewhere.
I change mine this way, works every time....
write down your current IP address to see if it changed after the steps...
click on start-> click on Run, type in cmd or command and press enter, ms-dos should open now...type in "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes)..you'll probably lose the internet connection now (its ok) ....
Go to Control Panel...Open Network Connection, right click Local Area COnnection, go to properties....Highlight Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) ..Click Properties...Click on the General tab(if not already) ...Click on Use the following IP address....in the IP Address type in a bogus IP like 188.8.131.52 on the Subnet Mask field type in 255.255.255.0 click ok and OK in every remaining window....now follow the same steps as above but click on "Obtain IP address automaticly" when u come to the IP address tab in the properties...after you close all the dialog boxes a new IP should be assigned to your computer....
