    Angry problem in Toshiba Laptop

i have a Toshiba Laptop 4080XCDT, well its quite an old one , it was workin fine frm quite a long time but suddenly frm last few days making trouble........ Anyway the problem is simply its not loading windows i can only goto to the BIOS setup n when i try to load windows it crashes rather got hanged, the problem is with the harddisk cause few months ago during my lecture it dropped frm table.

I was able to make it work, but this time after swiching off the power, the power LED is blinking contineously in orange color. since i dont have the manual with me cant figure it out wht the hell is it indicating, but normally wht these LEDs or blinking means is that it is self dignosing the problem n should contact the manufacturer or dealer. SO wht u folks say have i diagnoes the problem right or not.

I'd try reseating the memory and hard drive first. Check Toshiba's web site and see what diagnostics they have.

Does it output anything to the screen or beeps when you boot it up? Maybe try hooking it to the monitor from another computer and see if you get any output (I'm assuming your laptop has VGA out port).

You don't really need flashing LED's to diagnose this do you.

Get hold of a spare HDD, ideally ready loaded with an OS, any OS, boot it up, if it DOES boot, then you know that your HDD is dead in the water.

As for recovery of data ?
It all depends on how much fiscal worth you place on whatever you had stored ?
How frequently did you back up to CD-R ?
    Did you back up ?
    WHY NOT ?
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

    Foxy~

Shame on you, real men don't backup.............we use RAID1 with a RAID1 "doppelganger"

I would suggest that the young man check his battery connections and then the other devices...........something has doubtless become slightly disloged.

Otherwise, remove the battery and try it from mains power.

Please let me know what happens

I told u these blinking LEDs do have some meaning..... i just got the manual and its also pointing that there is a problem with the laptop n its self diagnosing it ...... have to contact the dealer with it...... SO thanx n u can get the copy of the manual for ur self satisfaction........ Thanx everyone .... by the way problem is of overheating....... n its related with Harddisk... the sad part is my data will get lost here but surely i will come up with something or the dealer
