Bin Laden: "Goal is to Bankrupt US"

I'm hoping that maybe some Americans will get the chance to read this before they make it to the polls tomorrow to vote.

Al-Jazeera releases full transcript of al Qaeda leader's tape

Monday, November 1, 2004 Posted: 8:07 PM EST (0107 GMT)

Osama bin Laden delivers a videotaped message broadcast on Arabic-language network Al-Jazeera.

(CNN) -- The Arabic-language network Al-Jazeera released a full transcript Monday of the most recent videotape from Osama bin Laden in which the head of al Qaeda said his group's goal is to force America into bankruptcy.

Al-Jazeera aired portions of the videotape Friday but released the full transcript of the entire tape on its Web site Monday.

"We are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah," bin Laden said in the transcript.

He said the mujahedeen fighters did the same thing to the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s, "using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers."

"We, alongside the mujahedeen, bled Russia for 10 years until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat," bin Laden said.

He also said al Qaeda has found it "easy for us to provoke and bait this administration."

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations," bin Laden said.

Al-Jazeera executives said they decided to post the entire speech because rumors were circulating that the network omitted parts that "had direct threats toward specific states, which was totally untrue."

"We chose the most newsworthy parts of the address and aired them. The rest was used in lower thirds in graphics format," said one official.

U.S. intelligence officials Monday confirmed that the transcript made public Monday by Al-Jazeera was a complete one.

As part of the "bleed-until-bankruptcy plan," bin Laden cited a British estimate that it cost al Qaeda about $500,000 to carry out the attacks of September 11, 2001, an amount that he said paled in comparison with the costs incurred by the United States.

"Every dollar of al Qaeda defeated a million dollars, by the permission of Allah, besides the loss of a huge number of jobs," he said. "As for the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars.

The total U.S. national debt is more than $7 trillion. The U.S. federal deficit was $413 billion in 2004, according to the Treasury Department.

"It is true that this shows that al Qaeda has gained, but on the other hand it shows that the Bush administration has also gained, something that anyone who looks at the size of the contracts acquired by the shady Bush administration-linked mega-corporations, like Halliburton and its kind, will be convinced.

"And it all shows that the real loser is you," he said. "It is the American people and their economy."

As for President Bush's Iraq policy, Bin Laden said, "the darkness of black gold blurred his vision and insight, and he gave priority to private interests over the public interests of America.

"So the war went ahead, the death toll rose, the American economy bled, and Bush became embroiled in the swamps of Iraq that threaten his future," bin Laden said.

U.S. government officials said Friday that the tape appeared to be authentic and recently made. It was the first videotaped message from the al Qaeda leader in nearly three years.

    Hmm....

i dont see the US bankrupting itself before erradicating terrorists. no offence to anyone out there.... but if it really came down to it, the US would start a nuclear war before that happened. and once a war like that starts, its not gonna stop and not all the money in the world could change it otherwise. (even if there was enough money, it would only be used to out-arm the enemy)

Now to the lighter side of:

How many yanks does it take to change a lightbulb??

There is no way CTO that you can erradicate terrorists or terrorism. They don't show themselves until they do damage. Noone will ever be able to completely erase terrorism/terrorists. They could be _Anywhere_ in the world and strike at _Anytime_ via any means possible

    fyrewall,

the exatly right, it will never end. but if it did get as bad as the US getting close to bankruptcy, then certain items and/or agendas would be put into action... like the forementioned.

    Hi,

War couldn't make US Bankrupt .............and if this was his soo secret plan why was he aring it on TV................the god Dam Civil Engineer is forgettting these wars are also earning monet for US .................more Wepons contracts areound the conflicted Zone and more say in the Internal workings of the So called Librated Countries.

US would start a nuclear war before that happened. and once a war like that starts, its not gonna stop and not all the money in the world could change it otherwise. (even if there was enough money, it would only be used to out-arm the enemy)
No sensible person could ever think of using a Nuclear wepon in any sort of War...............nobody wins in a nuclear war...nobody...............and until there are fair chances that not using them would wipe out the entire race they wouldn't be used IMHO...............becauss using them would mean something similar too

And even if you decide to go nuclear whome do you do it against it's not a fixed target .......like a country or something these terrorists hide behind peoples backs........whome do you use the nuclear wepon against .

There is no way CTO that you can erradicate terrorists or terrorism
They can be eradicated and for that you would have to eradecate their support base ..their supports and their sympathisers...........without the funds and that cozy closet to hide.........terrorists would vanish themselves.

Until they have people support it would be very difficult to get rid of them

I'm not just talking about one group here. I'm talking about all terrorists. It is not possible to get rid of terrorism, if you destroy their support base they will just go into hiding untill there next chance to strike ....

    Hi,

So am i fyrewall ..........i am not talking about just the Islamic Terrorist's .....take for examle organisation such as LTTE(Libration Tamil Tigers Eilm), ETA, PW(Peoples War)........These terrorist organisation feed on the support base without them they are nothing...................almost all of these organisations started claming themself the mentors of the oppressed and the weak........claming to protect them form the oppressing tyrant............and that gives them the support base.

Now where would they run and hide if they have no support base............they wouldn't rush towards Enemay countries say for example US , UK to hide they would look for some country where people are symphatic with their so called struggle.................the world is getting a small place and it would be very difficult to hide and even more so operate and your host not knowing it .

IMHO These islamic Terrorists are more succesful because they have a huge support base...............It's more of a social problem and has it's roots in the Poverty and Illitracy.................... and is needed to solved that way.

    --Good Luck--

If they lost their support base they would still have the same feelings and still have the same beliefs. So they would either go on by themselves and hurt people or sink back into civilization and wait for another oppurtunity. You can't change what everyone thinks and believes ...

There will always be terrorists in this world They may go underground for years but they are still there

I agree the bigger the support base the more damage that can be done. All I am saying is that you cannot completely erradicate terrorism

It does bring up a very interesting question. Who is paying for the liberation of Iraq? america or saudi arabia?

And perhaps someone can answer this: if the debt is about 7.5 trillion, at what point is it bankrupt? And this year's budget includes a $520 Billion deficit. So when would the US declare bankrupcy?
