    Lightbulb Networking Project for All

    I saw a thread relating to software engineering and programmers here at antionline about anyone interested in starting a project. This give an idea hope u ppl like it looks faily cool to me. Ok wht the idea is that im sketching an architecuter of a network, with as much detail as i can provide. what i want from u is to configure it online, i mean tell me if u are the engineer of this network how would u configure it, which tools would u be using on the server for security and management purpose which protocols u will be running, which services would u block, firewall configuration and anything u need for the network. I will also give view on wht i will be using.
    Heres the scenerio: -

    There are 4 departments:

    1. Accounts & Finance 1st Floor Nodes: 40
    2. Sales & Marketing 2nd Floor Nodes: 60
    3. Operation 4th Floor Nodes: 30
    4. I.T. 3rd Floor Nodes: 04

    Some Description About the Networks: -

    => The company is running a database on Oracle.
    => There is a local Website of the Company.
    => Each department should have 1 server (Operated by IT Personnals)
    => Each department should have 1 HR person means there must a terminal for the HR person in each department.
    => Each Department has its own printer plus there is 1 LASER printer Marketing Department.
    => Fax machine available at floor 1 i.e. Accounts Department.
    => Almost all the employees are familier with Windows platform so the OS at client side on each of the three department excluding IT should have windows.
    => File sharing should be available between Sales & Operation Deapartment.

    Applications: -

    => Browsing should be avaiable for all 4 departments.
    => Email facility within the organization.
    => Database Oracle.

    Requirment/Tasks: -

    => Proxy server Name and Its complete configuration.
    => Network Design. Arrangements of Router & Switches.
    => Software for security Purpose on servers.
    => Antivirus
    => Configuration of Switchs.
    => Domain Names.
    => IP addresses.
    => DHCP Server Available or Not.
    => Firewall Phyisical Yes or No.
    => ROuter Configuration.
    => Protocols.
    => Accounts on clients and Server. (Which type of accounts will be enable)
    => Remote monitoring yes or No.
    => Type of Connection for Internet Accessing.

    Current Hardware: -

    1.2 GHz Processor + 256 Ram = 55
    900 MHz Processor + 128 MB = 40
    850 MHz Processor + 128 MB = 35
    2.4 GHz Processor + 1GB Ram = 03
    1.8 GHz Processor + 512 Ram = 08

    You can get any other system on demand, also routers and switches.

    Its upto you whether you enable DHCP or u go for Network Management e.t.c I have just illustered few things above.

    May be its a dumb idea i mean this whole thing but it came into my mind n i thought should share. I will work on it too i mean i will also provide the solution this will take time...... The benefit others could have from this will be that suppose someone wants to configure a new proxy server this will be a model for s/he. Hope u get the idea.

    Edit:
    One more thing its good if you can attach the network diagram of ur proposed archietecture.

    From a CIO perspective heres what i would do.

    1. Pick up the phone
    2. Call my Senior Network engineer and a consulting firm.
    3. Give them all that information you just gave me.
    4. Tell them I want it done ASAP
    5. Go back to playing Counter Strike

    This kinda seems like a AITP contest problem I did a few weeks ago except it was a WAN problem involving DID numbers, Trunks, Citrix Servers and VoIP systems for phones.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmm,

    I couldn't get my head past the fact that there are 134 nodes and 141 PCs?

    Before I could make a decision about internet connection type network backbones etc. I would need to know what kind of work does this company do?

    What type of work do they do (for accessing network requirements)
    Do they send lots of information over the internet?
    Is the Database used continually or is it just used occasionallY?

    Still need more information about this comapny in order to begin what kind of connections and backbones they need for their network.

    If their just sharing documents then a good ole 10/100mbps network backbone shoudl work but if they are sharing lareg files then a fiber backbone would seem a better choice.

    So what u can take 7 PCs back to ur Home anyway u can put them as backup or u can put in stock as if any node get failure u have stand by system.

    I would need to know what kind of work does this company do?

    Lets say they are in the business of garments. (Manufacturer & Supplier)

    What type of work do they do (for accessing network requirements)
    Well lets say they are sharing a centralized database. Emails and other Marketing.

    Do they send lots of information over the internet?
    As mentioned above emailing, browsing e.t.c Also faxing service which is used frequently by them.

    Is the Database used continually or is it just used occasionallY?

    Very frequently or rather almost all the time.

    So whts ur opinion now. Does this clear the questions in ur mind. or still have some queries ?

    Well in the Network Academy I attended we had such questions

    But I'm too lazy to work me in this, but I'm interested what comes up. Would it be possible, to make that visio-file avaiable for viewing, when you have it done?
