    M$ plans on longhorn

well here is what M$ plans with long horn
Long horn uses DMCA,(Digital Millennium Copyright Act) so it's obviously very very bad!! (Heck, I wouldn't expect anything better from M$)

    http://www.google.co.in/search?num=5...longhorn&meta=

    Lexmark tried to enforce DMCA
for its printers which would have stopped their users from refilling the
    cartridges. The court didn't approve.

    Anyways.

Secondly, from what I know, M$ is planning to introduce the "Iridium"
stuff in their upcoming Windows releases. What this basically does is, by
writing a code directly into your processor, M$ can stop the processor from
executing any code that's not been digitally signed by M$. Now, while this
seems to be a good thing to get rid of viruses and piracy, it also means
that you won't be able to install Linux on your computer, because the
processor would refuse to run it as there's no way M$ would sign for
    Linux...

    so what do you say?
i think there will be a court case before this comes out.
and more over we M$ dropped win fs . hasn't it?

Wait, if intel makes the processor and the OS can't change the processors programming (can it?) how would the processor go about knowing whats MS code and what not, doesn't microsoft need to sell specific computers then capable of doing something like that !

    Hi,

Long horn uses DMCA,(Digital Millennium Copyright Act)
It's a act ...............it's already there ..........the act can be used to sue someone if someone violates it regarding piracy .................what do you mean Microsoft LongHorn uses DMCA.

    Lexmark tried to enforce DMCA
for its printers which would have stopped their users from refilling the
    cartridges. The court didn't approve.
Lexmark tried using the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) against a firm.

Errrrr microsoft dosen't makes Law............Politicians do .................blame the authorities if the Act is not worthy.

what i have heard or read about the new concept or solution to the piracy is ...............Longhorn may introduce a new concept a new technology that helps prevent piracy of digital copyrighted works................. The technology would differ from current technologies because the copyright protections would actually implemented by the software being used to copy media as opposed to contained in the CD or DVD itself.

and more over we M$ dropped win fs . hasn't it?
No M$ errrrr ..Microsoft has not Dropped WinFS just delayed it .....................it was to be introduced with Longhorn .....now it is being said that longhorn will not introduce WinFs..................... maybe Blackcomb will or maybe something in between them.

Secondly, from what I know, M$ is planning to introduce the "Iridium"
stuff in their upcoming Windows releases.
I don't have any Info regarding this so i can't comment on it ...................do you have any links

    it also means
that you won't be able to install Linux on your computer, because the
processor would refuse to run it as there's no way M$ would sign for
    Linux...
errrrrr Linux is a process..................Linux is a seperate OS .....................OS can only have control of the processes Under it......................in a multiboot environment you get the ooption to select the OS you want to boot form ...................and i don't blieve longorn would have control to stop booting Linux at that time because Longhorn is not loded either.

Nor can it stop the installation .............because the computer will boot form the Linux Bootable CD and then too Windows OS is not in comtrol.

It can only control the processes when it is running .

    --Good Luck--

That is not making any sense. So if i write a application in VB does it be "signed" by MS because its done in MS VB or i will need to send my application to MS to sign it? None the options seem to be possible. lets see:

    1) if the "compiler" signs the code because its a "MS tool" it will violate:
    a) anti trust laws, since it will kill any other "compilers" writers
    b) it will be useless, since i will write a virus in vb and run safelly -- and you will trust at my virus since its "MS signed"

    2) sending to MS? everybody that wants to write a company appl will send code to MS? ????

On a second hand, i think that MS is planning (MS started this process on XP) to allow only digital signed sw to run as "system processes". Like in XP, to guarantee some "code quality". Its is presented nowadays in XP and i think its a good idea.

However it will bring some issues about antitrust laws again, since if i write a, for example, printer device driver, send to MS and MS didnt accept my driver, i wont be able to sell my printers. So i can sue MS because its blocking me to get access to the market....

At last, i dont believe that Intel will do a crazy think like "WIndows processor only" and loose more market for other brands such as AMD
