well here is what M$ plans with long horn
Long horn uses DMCA,(Digital Millennium Copyright Act) so it's obviously very very bad!! (Heck, I wouldn't expect anything better from M$)

Lexmark tried to enforce DMCA
for its printers which would have stopped their users from refilling the
cartridges. The court didn't approve.

Anyways.

Secondly, from what I know, M$ is planning to introduce the "Iridium"
stuff in their upcoming Windows releases. What this basically does is, by
writing a code directly into your processor, M$ can stop the processor from
executing any code that's not been digitally signed by M$. Now, while this
seems to be a good thing to get rid of viruses and piracy, it also means
that you won't be able to install Linux on your computer, because the
processor would refuse to run it as there's no way M$ would sign for
Linux...

so what do you say?
i think there will be a court case before this comes out.
and more over we M$ dropped win fs . hasn't it?
