Deleting old shortcuts from XP???
Hey guys,
I just want to know if in a XP operating system there is a folder in which shortcuts
from recently used programs are stored? I mean I know after you uninstall a program,
shortcuts related to that program are deleted however I thought it might keep it in a
temp folder somewhere.
If so, how do you get to it?

It is actually a feature called "prefetch" and to start it you go
Start > Run and type in "prefetch"
Then press ctrl+A to highlight all the shortcuts and then press delete

Hmmm... "prefetch" does nothing on my box... (xp pro sp2)
Just can't be found...
I think I've seen it under c:\windows\prefetch but its not there now either...
I must have killed whatever service that uses prefech?

yeh its c:\windows\prefetch for me ......
You can quickly see what Windows XP is prefetching for you. Click Start | My Computer, and double-click the drive that's storing your \WINDOWS directory (normally drive C:\. Open the Windows folder and open the Prefetch folder to reveal a list of programs that XP prefetches
take a look at this website

I knew you had to clear out the prefech dir once in a while and I do that on my machine at work.
For some reason it isn't on this box at home...
However, I have 2 installs of XP on this box. One is for my everyday tasks and a second install to another partition for video games only. (no av, no firewall, etc. keep down on using a lot of resources, makes gaming faster) That install does have a prefech dir in D:\windows\prefetch. But that is only for the second install... They can't be sharing it...
Weird...
