    The two most widely supported/popular ones are:

    http://www.xinehq.de
    http://www.mplayerhq.com

    xine plays dvds?....i never knew that.
    how would you go about setting up linux to read from your dvd...is their anything special i have to do like scsi emulation?

    Xine does play DVDs, and nothing special needs to be done to your dvd in terms of SCSI, unless you are using a SCSI drive. It's usually as simple as creating a syslink from your /dev/cdromblahblah (whatever your dvd drive is being detected as, maybe cdrom2) to /dev/dvd.

    example:

    /dev/cdroms/cdrom2 -> /dev/dvd

    That way when xine/mplayer accesses /dev/dvd for the DVD-rom, your dvd drive is already pointed towards it. Get what I mean?

    And thanks It's good to be back.
