dvd player software for my laptop
hi i am new to linux and i am looking for a dvd movie playing software for my laptop. can any one help me out .

xine plays dvds?....i never knew that.
how would you go about setting up linux to read from your dvd...is their anything special i have to do like scsi emulation?

Xine does play DVDs, and nothing special needs to be done to your dvd in terms of SCSI, unless you are using a SCSI drive. It's usually as simple as creating a syslink from your /dev/cdromblahblah (whatever your dvd drive is being detected as, maybe cdrom2) to /dev/dvd.
example:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom2 -> /dev/dvd
That way when xine/mplayer accesses /dev/dvd for the DVD-rom, your dvd drive is already pointed towards it. Get what I mean?
