    Wardriving with GPS

I use netstumbler and an antenna via my PCI card in my laptop. I would like a program that takes the netstumbler files and converts them into a file that only a GPS type of program can read. Any suggestions?

Other question: Are there any GPS mapping programs that just tell me where I am etc.

COnsidering there is not geo location data to capture via netstumbler or packets broadcast via wifi; that is impossible without you figuring out your location via a gps device and puting it in manually.

Well I ordered a laptop with built in GPS. How would I use a "program" to see where I am etc, like a moving map sort of"?

My simple understanding would suggest the following example/analogy:

    1. You have a lot of electric power sockets in your house?
    2. They all provide electric power.
    3. Only you know which room they are in?

You have two parallel, but unrelated activities?...........the service, and the location?

This goes back to the 'stickies' in the newbie section.
If you want specific information, then you HAVE to give more details up front, not dribbling them in piecemeal.

GPS will spin up on start up, and take it's fix, convert to a co-ordinate,[easting / northing] and spit out the details to you, in a format that you can understand.....

I mean that if you are buying a laptop with GPS built-in, then it will work from day 1...........
    pointless otherwise .

Autoroute will do that for you. There must be a ton of other mapping apps that will work with Gps. Be a bit useless other wise.

    Hmmm,

I guess that I am older than your grandfather

OK, your new laptop will tell you where the laptop is. You can find a wireless link, but that is not tied into any GPS system. You can only do it by PHYSICAL PROXIMITY, not remotely............you don't have access to "those" satellites

I will tell you a little story (a true one!)

A senior systems architect (SSA) came to visit me...........

SSA: "My GPS says that I am here but I cannot see you"
ME: "We make electronic warfare and countermeasures kit, of course you cannot see us, but I can see you on this TV screen"

I then gave him directions..............do you see my point?
