Cws
My son is back in town, and using my computer, and tonight my Ad-Aware found 4 critical registry files...but locked up when I got to the point of trying to delete them. Spybot found DSO Exploit (which it always seems to), but also 4 CWS files. SpySweeper 3.5 found 4 registry keys and CWS.sp.html hijack.
Obviously, I've tried a lot of stuff already to get rid of this, but it just won't go.
Here is my hijackthis file. You guys were great before. Can anyone help this time?

Please try this:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Interne...Shredder.shtml
Update all your other stuff as well, and run the lot in SAFE MODE.
A lot of scumware loads when you boot, so you cannot clean it in normal mode
Good luck

I have not yet tried your suggestion...however, since this looked surprisingly similar to the problem I was having in June, I tried to do some of the same things I did then (which is probably a mistake, since I am not very good at this). At any rate, I tried using HijackThis to delete some registry lines (same ones that showed up before). Then I re-ran Ad-Aware, which found even MORE than it did previously...and the HJT delete apparently did not work.
These are the lines I asked HJT to delete:

Did I miss something? Or is HJT no longer working on some of these CWS nasties?

Why bother to fix it?
my suggestion: format and reload OS, make 1 partition for system, load most software you use often, then image it. anytime got problem, ghost it.
I like new instead of repairing.

Cool Web Search is often a swine to get rid of. There are new variants appearing regularly.
Go to the link I gave you and get Cool Web Shredder. Run it in safe mode, then SpyBot and AdAware.
HJT won't be able to get rid of stuff that is actually running at the time

I downloaded the CWShredder 2.12 but have not used it yet. Interestingly, I restored the system to where it was last week, and when I ran HJT this is the new logfile I get:

It seems like all the nasty registry lines I was worried about are gone. I'm going to run CWShredder 2.12 in Safe Mode (along with Ad-Aware and SpyBot) to be sure, but is this too good to be true?

HJT never worked on CWS alone. It's always been a tool used in conjunction with other tools. Run the newer CWShredder (2.1 I believe) then follow up with an updated Ad-aware and Housecall virus scan. Post a new HJT log after you have done all those steps.
Edit: Guess I type slow with the baby in my lap - your log looks good!! Now get some protection on that thingso you don't end up in the same predicament.

I had run Shredder 2.0 and it did absolutely nothing. I just downloaded 2.12 and will give that a try in a moment -- but as you can see from my last post, the HJT filelog looks reasonable (at least to me).

It doesn't look that great to me but I don't know your box.....
There is a virus/trojan/spyware, ok, lets call it malware out there I was reading about recently but the details elude me and google brings up crap that uses four files one of which is 1.exe which you have there. Unless you know what it is I would lose it.

I guess I am missing the 1.exe you are talking about. Is there anything else in particular that you notice (because I will undoubtedly miss it). What lines cause you concern? I did just run SpyBot and Ad Aware again. Ad Aware found many (7) critical items, mostly data miners, but this time did not hang up when I tried to delete them after quarantine. Afterwards, I ran HJT once more, and got this (which I hope is final) logfile:
