Or depends on your computer manufacturer or BIOS version ? It may be another key like Del or F2 ! In most cases it is F8.

hmm..i tried f8..it wont work..my computer isnt dell..it's AMD something

You have to keep pressing it, if you press it only once it probably won't be the right time and won't boot. Try keep pressing it untill you get the boot menu.

safe mode is a WINDOWS thing.. the DEL and F2 are for getting into your BIOS.. two Bloody different things..
OK I assume your machine is not a Name brand: ie DELL, Compaq, HP etc
Just after the POST screen (the one with the Drive lists, memory test etc) start tapping the F8 key (2 to 3 times per second) this should bring up a options menu one of which is SAFE MODE.
If you don't see the POST screen.. just start tapping F8 AFTER you see something on your display.. newer machines you have less time than on the older boxes..

Dammit, when you click the restart option on shutdown just start tapping F8

why dont you just restart in safe mode it is an option during shutdown in win98.

Holding the Ctrl key during boot gets you there more easily than trying to press the F8 key at the right time.
