    Thanks foxyloxley,

I looked in system information and everything has an " OK " on it except...in conflicts/sharing the modem is listed...is it possible that the modem is causing the mouse to move on it's own...and it does move even when I am not on the net.

Aside from this and what I've already mentioned I'm not sure where else to look for the problem...any suggestions out there...that haven't already been covered?

when you say the modem is 'listed'
do you mean that it is in conflict with another named piece of kit ?
    IRQ ?
is it set to configure automatically ?
manual set up is possible ...................

It is possible that the modem is 'old' and it has a default setting in IRQ / DMA etc, in which case you can move the value manually.
    The cursor moving ? Hmmm
The alleged conflict could, I suppose, be delaying signal data to the mouse.

I feel the following words should be collected up, rearranged and used in their correct context :

    'Straws' and 'Clutching at'
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

foxyloxley, you're right...at this point it's just shootin' in the dark and hopin' you hit somethin'...but I did come across an article where a modem caused a conflict with a mouse

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;129818
PCMCIA Modem Causes IRQ Conflict with Mouse on NEC 3150 LT

in conflicts/sharing it lists the modem as IRQ 9 if that means anything

The Texan, howdy there partn'r, I did ask about drivers before and if I remember correctly the person said that because I do regular updates it should have come up there if I needed one...but I've still checked around and the only driver I can find is this one

Download details: IntelliPoint 5.2 Mouse Software for Windows XP and 2000
