Rcovery RAW

I booted from BartPE for getting acess to HD but it looks like that HD was damaged.

Windows disk manager showed that file system type is RAW.
And I not getting access to disk and chkdsk returns errorlevel 3 on exit.

It was windows xp installed there before.

Is it some way to recovery something from that disk?
I traid one recovery tool from BartPE but it just crashed with no error message shown.

What Linux or Windows tool do I need?

If you're having a hardware failure on the hard drive I wouldn't count on any normal software tools to recover the data. Sounds like you are because you're getting software crashes when you try to access the drive. You can try another tool like knoppix, but I don't think they'll see more than you can with your boot CD.

I'd go with what you have and recover any of the data that you can see from your boot disk. If you're hearing a grinding on the drive you should do this sooner than later.

Linux detects partition as NTFS and Windows as RAW
No errors on mount disk.

I think I may have misunderstood the problem. I was thinking you were getting errors from the hard drive. I was also thinking that you could boot to the cd fine and see files, but not access all of the files.

Now I'm thinking you have a specific partition that you can't reach and two operating systems are seeing it as two different file systems. I've never had any problems getting any data that is still intact on the disk with a knoppix disk. I just copy my files over and get out, if you can't do this I'd question whether or not the data is still physically there anymore and if it can be recovered without the use of special (non-software) tools.

I know this is a commercial software, but if you can get access to SpinRite (www.grc.com) you may be able to recover the drive long enough to back up the system or copy critical data. I've used it before and it has worked wonders. If the drive is really dead, it will tell you, too.

You can create a bootable CD with the SpinRite app in Windows and boot with it to attempt your HD recovery.

I think rapier hit the nail on the head. If it's still spinning, and there's a good chance it won't be for long if it is damaged, get what you can off it using that tool. If it's not spinning you're looking at a hardware recovery with some expensive hardware tools or taking it to a specialist.
