    Suicide

Has anyone ever thought about suicide ? I thought about it often these last 2 weeks(dunno what im gonna do anymore), love problems etc. I know it'll get better but im tired of waiting and feeling this way ? Have you ever thought about it, what was the reason (if its not too personal) ? WHat have you done to get better.....

TheSpecialist: Keep your sorry ass comments to yourself if you're gonna say "GO ahead and do it", this isn't supposed to be a Sympathy thread, i just want some opinions,

btw: if anyone is interested in a philosophical view on this, there's a similar thread going on on Ennis and my forum TalkPhilosophy.org Suicide Thread

Dont reply with don't do it or do it, thats still a choice i'll make. I just wants some views about suicide by other members.

If your interest is in philosophy then I shouldn't have to tell you what Socrates said when posed with the question...

what I would suggest is that when you are feeling this way to not put yourself in a position where you spend too much time alone which opens a door to dwell on those things...don't isolate yourself...find something to do perferably something that involves an activity ( eg. running, sports, gym, social clubs ( non-alcohol ) ) that gives you something other to occupy yourself with...and by doing this you speed up the recovery process.

and you might make some new friends in the process...which will shed a new light on your life !

Actually I was suggesting someplace or activity you don't normally go or do respectively...where there is the possibility of making new friends.

A dirty little unspoken secret in society is that everyone *thinks* about committing suicide. Actually acting on those thoughts are what divide sanity from insanity - either in the form of a cry for help and attention (failed attempts), or the actual thing. It's perfectly normal to wonder what the world would be like without you in it. It's also normal to think about death, dying, and what it's like. These questions have plagued man since he was intelligent enough to think. Again, it's the action, not the thoughts that make you mentally ill.

Actually, thoughts of suicide, recurring and common, are a symptom of mental illness (clinical depression). However, it takes more than 2 weeks.

This is unfortunately a topic that I'm very familiar with, and something that I deal with a lot. The best way to beat a case of "the blues" is with exercise, socialization, and avoiding depressants....like alcohol.

If it's something that lasts much longer than a couple of weeks, or if you actually develop a plan of action to commit suicide, you need to talk to a professional.

My opinion of suicide is that no one ever knows what you're going thru. Most people accept that people who have terminal illnesses and live in pain should have the option to end their own lives. Well, depression isn't terminal...but there is no real cure. And who says that physical pain is worse than mental? No one should judge you for choosing to end your own life. If you don't have that choice, what the hell good are all the other "freedoms" we have? However, at your age, and over something that is a very temporary problem, it is a very long term solution to a short term problem

PM me if you'd like to talk a bit more.

I have. In fact, I got so far, due to being somewhat intoxicated, as to call friends complaining that the knife wasn't sharp enough to slit my wrists and did they have something sharper. Not one of my finer moments. It was a spiral downward that surrounded my mom's murder. And a whole bunch of unresolved issues that I had with her, with my real father (who I had only just met) and my step-father, who seemed to enjoy verbally abusing me.

I do know this: once you hit the bottom where you're contemplating this, you have no where to go but up. What I would suggest however is that you do talk to someone in person. Just even if it's to vent. If you're hurting, you need somewhere safe where you can just "let it out" about how horrible life is. The fact that you've been thinking about it for two weeks is a good sign. In my case, it was an implus brought about due to drinking (btw, stay away from the alcohol at this time -- it's a depressive).

    FWIW.

Heres my 2 cents on this. We all do think of suicide, as a solution when things arn't bad. But after talking with a friend about this, he said "If someone is to call a suicide help line, they can't be to serious. If the person was going to kill him/her self they would have just done it. But by calling the help line, its just because they are having second thoughts and need to be talked out of it."

Is this true? I don't know, but it did make sense to me.
I\'d try to be pestimistic, but that probably wouldn\'t work.

Yeap. It passed thru my mind several times.

The funny thing (for me) is that the peak of that idea was about i was 15 and 33. Those terrible moments of my life. I think when i feel on a "no way out" scene, i eventually go back to the idea. What is funny, so? Although ive thought about it, i NEVER tried or was NEAR to do it. I always saw that was a phase. Thanks God for that.
