Dear Washington Mutual Security Representative,
Below you will find a Forwarded email I received that I believe is of
fraudulent nature. There are several factors that make me believe so, but
the most important is that all the links point to
www.squarepoint-pointcarre.com, though they have a washingtom mutual
address displayed on screen.
If I may make a suggestion: Please disallow external image linking from
your website to other sites. One of the major ways scammers employ to make
it appear as if the email is coming from a legitimate source is to display
the company's logo in their fraudulent emails and webpages. Besides making
scams appear credible, the scammers are also using your bandwidth (that
you pay for) to do so.
Your webmaster should know how to disable this feature. This will render
many fraudulent emails less likely to be confused with the real website
(at least temporarily), and will make it more expensive for them generate
them in the future (by forcing the scammers to pay for their own
bandwidth).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at this
email address. I make every effort to not only report as many fraudulent
emails as I can to make online banking safer for the less tech-savvy Wamu
customers, but also suggest ways to reduce the impact of scammers.
Thank you very much for your time,
