admittedly i have found nothing exciting about this site of late .. however i have gone off computers/networking/whatever totally to the point where i find it boring

I've been posting almost the same thing in Site suggestions ever since JupM warped the play-doh'-container look of the site with all this "blue" garbage. As for content, it was never above sub-par. Really, people are here only for the reason why im here, this place makes a great substitute for IRC.

The site was going to trash before you sold out JP, and the trend has not improved.. that is the arse licking out of the way..notice how that happens a lot when JP turns up..

There is no "leader"or iconic type for the rest to look up to and bitch at.. we're just a bunch of limp arse wallies.. no one is willing to stand up and say.. right, fellow lemmings to the cliffs.... and veryfew with the gonads to standup and say.. lets go via the sewer..

JP in the year or so before you sold, the site was changing away from what was.. you were moving your time into other areas.. was this wrong ..no bloody way.. you have a life.. the problem was that there seemed to be no alter ego.. a follow on leader..
If some find the reference as a leader is off.. well JP you were the designer, it was your comments actions that directed this site.. as much as you like it or not..
today the site is lead by the most vocal or the ones that are able to push the hard pressed moderators..

We are a directionless bunch, meandering our way through the issues of internet and computer security..

I sence that one or 3 may be trying... but the great unwashed are in control..

I'm new here so I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you saying the website itself is broken or the people in it or both.
If it's the website, I wouldn't have a clue, and there's not much we can do about that at this level anyways...if it's the people I would disagree, I think this site has one of the best mix of people, and I don't see anything wrong at all...if it's leadership, or the lack thereof, as Und3rtak3r suggested, then there are many people who could qualify for that and it's up to the community to make them leaders.
As for Specialists comments, I don't think he gets around much, I've visited many other computer forums, and I'm personally a member of 9 of them, and I can honestly say AO's is one of three I visit regularly...people here try and accomplish more than any other site I've seen...I posted a question on another forum about two mths ago which still hasn't been answered...and alot of places you get hundreds of one-liners by people just trying to up their post counts, etc...so I don't see his point at all.
But as I said I haven't been here long enough to guess what you mean.

My point is... everyone is on about learning this and that or getting their questions answered but lets be honest, at what point do you people honestly learn anything here? I have never learnt anything from AO so I don't see why anyone else would. I've actually posted some stuff as a joke on many many many occasions and got thanked for it from people without the wiser and thats pretty sad that some of you guys are actually that nieve, man... come on.

Lets also keep in mind that this place has been pretty much empty these past three or four weeks now when compaired to other days. We are in the middle of yet another downtime as MsM would call it but you'll notice its happening alot more often now, wouldn't you agree? Threads are coming and going within a matter of minutes instead of days because they aren't trialing off into random stuff as much. Like I said... people want IRC.

But lets get something out of the water. the site has always looked childish and stupid. Funny considering the age group of most people that show up here 'eh? But JupM has made things even uglier around here with their changes. Most of the members that have been here since 2002 and below are now gone. Clearly the place isn't growing up with its user-base too. I've been here awhile and I know I haven't grown up. I only wish that stupid and useless stuff like this "thread AP" thing wouldn't be added while the rest of the look and layout of the site is ruined while im passing time.

at what point do you people honestly learn anything here?

Actually I've learned quite a bit...but then, about 4-5 mths ago I started from nothing at all.

Yes...I would agree...it's slowed down some...but like a wise ole iceman once said to me...it tends to ebb and flow.

I've never used it myself...but some people like to comment on what they think is the value of the content of the thread as a whole...it does get used....and from what I see, quite often.
