what if your coputer comes up to a blue screen and its says windows xp 2000 cd-rom

I have a friend that has an xp its says that signals bad and cd-rom windows xp is needed i think the guy we gave it to messed the tham thing up. First he said he's going to give us the a program. Then all of a sudden he says that the computer has to much spyware and he cant download for us. we take it back and the computer is all glictchy and it moves slow then it keeps going to this blue screen not it doesn't want to go to the desktop i have no clue what to do it just keeps messing up and it doesn't want to load this guy didn't download the program and now it doesn't work. i called him up we told himthe problem he said that its eider a virus or a hacker that got on to the computer. He said it will cost $65 dollars to fix the computer i think that freakign retarted it should be cheaper than that do u guys have any suggetions on what i should do.

Put the cd in..and see what happens...not sure about an XP 2000 cd though

The computer may need to be repaired....and you will need the cd to do this.

Can you boot into safe mode (hit F8 repeatedly on startup)

Is there alot of data on the machine??

You can repair the install if you have the xp cd....and your key of course
