Hmmmmmmmmmmm.........................
I never got beyond recovering the "fridge magnet" and a few screws
On a more serious note; if you do refurbs and repairs keep the circuit board (remember to tag/label it) as I have had success with replacing them to revive an apparently "dead " drive.
OK it is usually the heads that go, but sometimes the board is compromised, and replacing it works
Cheers
I wonder if Undies will back me on that one?

Well..........
Given the cost of laboratory data recovery (they usually check that out first?) I have made the price of a new machine on two occasions, and got the new build job
At least the new ones have RAID1
I know.............cutting my own throat?
OH Well

is very ugly when the media fails..
most of my playing around has been controller related.. never played with the heads
when I did bother with the guts of the toys, the media looked like steelo had been used.. .. havent had a job worth that much trouble.. yet
Why do we do it?... because we think of the task, the security, more than out future income.. like the current comment in my sig..

Hah!
is very ugly when the media fails..
That is RAID0 (striping)............sure you can get a couple of 7500 Rpms to work like a 15000...........but you should be using SCSI? by my thinking RAID0 should be reserved for MCSKs? (Microsoft Certified Script Kiddies?)
RAID1 is cool..........100% mirroring, 100% redundancy?
I am not sure my wife really needs it...........but what the hell?........cut flowers fade and die.
