    Question mhcf.exe

Just ran Hijackthis on a WindowsMe (yeck) machine, and found this:

    C:\WINDOWS\mhcf.exe

Googled out, search had NO results.

Anyone have a clue what this is?

rename it and reboot...see what errors you get

or try a find it in the registry...see if you can see what it is linked to/??

Post the whole Hijackthis log, there may be something linked to it you may have missed.

    Hi AK,

OUCH! http://whatis.techtarget.com doesn't show it either - and they're usually right on top of things. M$ dotcom and symantec didn't have it either - reckon it might be a zero day?

Maybe not what your looking for but you could try using something like Quick View Plus to see more details about the file Link

Or if it runs as a process try something like Process Viewer to find out a bit more Link .

I know these 2 programs helped me out once in a while so might help you to.

Anyway just my 2 cents ,

THe rest of the log looks fine. This

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mhcf] C:\WINDOWS\mhcf.exe

is probablyjust randomly named malware. You could upload it to Kaspersky or, better yet, to Jotti's malware scan press the Browse button, and find the file, then upload and scan it.
    Let us know the results.
Copy and paste the output of each scan to this thread.

Or you could just kill it.
