    Internet Connectivity Problems

I have a freshly installed version of Slackware installed on an old box. It's got an ethernet connection to my router, and I have cable internet. I configured it to have a static IP address. However, I have huge lag and packet loss. When I try 'ping google.com', it resolves the IP address, but all of the packets time out. When I then try 'ping 216.239.37.99' I get about 50-60% packet loss. I can connect to other computers on my LAN fine. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks.

Do a ping to 127.0.0.1. What was your Approximate round trip times in Milliseconds. If its more than a few milli-seconds then most likely there is a problem with your NIC.

Did you have this problem before you installed slackware?

It must be a slackware config problem then. Did you get a manual with it, try these sites:

    Linux Help

    Slackware Help

    Slackware configuration help

    Slackware Network Configuration Help

Failing that you could always ask Gore!
