    background processes-xp pro

    hi and thnks for help
    just want to know
    i have 28 processes in backgroaund.
    do you need that many and if not how to get rid of them or reduce them?

    Figure out what those processes are and then either stop the service from running (particularly from startup) or from startup. The liutilities Process Library can help with some of that as can ProcessExplorer and TaskManager. You can see what services are running by going to Start --> Run and type services.msc. Additionally, you can use google to find out information on other services (e.g., those belonging to AV, firewall, media tools, etc.)
