I recommend the java api documentation on http://java.sun.com .
If you're learning java i recommend the oreilly books.
"When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes." - Erasmus
"There is no programming language, no matter how structured, that will prevent programmers from writing bad programs." - L. Flon
"Mischief my ass, you are an unethical moron." - chsh

herbert schildt is the reccomended book in my college and it is in depth but has not given a lot of stress on any one topic ,although may i suggest that you look at some of the online documentation (as said above java api)
anything that doesn\'t kill you or your dreams only makes you stronger
