    The Effectiveness of Clamav

I just wanted to get some user feedback on the open-source anti-virus Clamav http://www.clamav.net/

I've used it a while ago to scan emails for viruses, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using it for host security, e.g. protecting nfs/samba shares.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

clam seems to be one of the better open source av solutions. I use it on several of my severs including an email server and a few db servers. It gets the job done and is easy to update.

It is good if you run the update program freshclam frequently.
However, do not bet the farm on the program as there are quite a few viruses that still can get through.
We run clam on the email server but still have TrendMicro on every PC.
