FTP in redhat

Hi i am setting up a redhat enterprise machine in my school so we could mess around with it and i was trying to get the FTP server to run but i was having some troubles with it i got the apache server to run using the command httpd so i figured ftpd should work for ftp right wrong, can any one help me out with this i think it is using secure ftp as its server how would i actavite it. any help would be appreciated

Ummm, what server are you using? RedHat came with at least 2 when I used it and I have no idea what it has now. VSFTP was the usual, open the firewall config, allow FTP, then in the services whatever the hell redHat calls it, start up FTPd.... Umm, you have to be root, and then load up services or whatever it's called. That has Apache and FTP and every other service in there that you'd use.

The services app I'm talking about is in the Gnome and KDE menu under I think System or something, maybe Network. I don't use RedHat because they are dick heads that I'm not giving 200 dollars to use their crap.

If it has PureFTPD use that file to make it use accounts.

Enterprise comes with VSFTP. From the command line, type "setup" and then go into system services and look for VSFTP in the list. If it's not there, you'll need to download the RPM and install it.

I like using PureFTPd

Its what I run on 3 Red Hat Enterprise Servers.

Might give that a go if your gonna be downloading a FTP server anyway.

ok thanks for the information i am going to go do it right now and gore no its a networking class we do do unix but this box is more just for fun cuz we got enterprise for free.
