Another way you could have fixed this was on start up press f8 then select "start from last known good configurations" ... or it says something like that... It should start the computer with the registry settings before you changed it, and you won't lose anything except your mess up settings lol...

if you boot into safe mode....can you log on as the administrator account (the one that never shows up on the logon screen) then change the way users log on?

I don't think that works on windows xp pro, which is the OS he is using, but i'm not 100% sure on that one...
