If your friend is correct, how come there are so many pirate copies of WindowsXP in the World?
He may be talking about the big manufacturer's "recovery disks"..............they probably only work with the original make & model of computer?

No, you cannot burn a original cd , since you need a special equipment...
However you can burn a windows xp install CD as any other. I cant see why you cant.
For example:
- Make an bootable .ISO image from an "original CD".
- modify as you want (e.g. install sp2 and some custom mods)
- burn a new one
- voilá!
it works.

he is right in the fact that you cannot just clone the original cd. But you can burn an install cd. You just burn the image of the iso. If it were not possible there wouldnt be disks like NemisisXP and the like available.

I've never had a problem copying any original install disks. It's something I always do where possible. I put the original away safe and use the copy so if it gets scratched I just make a new copy to use.
It's the licence key that is important.
A lot of game CDs will not copy without special software, this is possibly what you are thinking of?
