    NetGear DG834 Router cfg file

Thought I would post this info for anyone who has one and maybe the same applies to other home routers. I don't no if this is common knowledge or if it has been posted here before but:

Within the routers admin web interface there is the option to save the configuration to disk. The file that is created can be viewed in notepad or any other text editer I assume.

Here is the Interesting thing, the whole config is in clear text. Below is a censored copy of an old config I have. I've bolded the real interesting areas.

Perhaps if you have backed up your config to disk you may want to re-think that idea.

Ok, so the interesting thing to know would be what is the file extension if any...then pop open our favorite search engine, google, and do a search for filetype: and see how many are publically posted.

The interesting thing is not the files extension, ".cfg"..............The fact that your login and password to you isp...........dns, details... router login name and password..are all in plain old English.

Would you save those details in a text file on your hdd unencrypted?
