I know all this is just a matter of opinion but...

I've seen the rigs in your profile... There's no reason you should be playing original doom. It may be a good game on its own merits but it's just too damn old.

It's kind of like I'm telling you ... here have a piece of this filet mignon.... and you are like... oh it's ok I have this NY strip... and I'm like... but this is USDA Prime FM ... and you say... but i like my NY strip...

i understand... it's all opinion but the gamming has evolved so fast ... it's hard to choose what are the best games on the market today... that's why i don't get why ppl waste their time w/ old games

If there is no reason because it's old, then well, you should at least throw your computer out. The technology has been around a long time, the only difference is it's faster (Like Doom runs faster on my machine than a 386). And you might as well toss your phone out too, that;s beena round and hasn't changed much in ... a long time.

And your TV, WOW, that is old.

And with this same thinking, might as well toss out Windows all together. It's based on the same tech it was in the early 90s.

Point of this is, I don't care of it's old, I like what I like. As for that thing about steak you said, here is mine:

If I offered you a brand new 2005 Contour from Ford, OR a 1973 GTO Judge with a 502. ... What are you going to pick?

NP: The Ramones. they may be old but it doesn't mean I'm tossing it because of that.

Actually im very open about being an old man in a dark basement who's only existance is in front of a computer. My mommie also cooks, cleans, and washes my clothes for me. My signature just hours before posting should have pointed that out right off the bat.

That goes to show that im not even nearly as self contradictive as you are.

I guess people play games until they get bored with them, after all people play cards and chess and checkers all their lives?

Others might not have the latest equipment so can really only play older items.

And again, some games are "classics" of their genre so are of interest to students and enthusiasts.

If you can enjoy old books and old movies, why not old games?

    Hey Hey,

I think that unhappy needs to bend over and pull the controller outta his/her ass...

Old games are not only classics....they are still the best games... I've mentioned the excessive amount of consoles around here in other posts.. I can do it again now just to make sure you see them.

PC: 2600+, 2500+, 2.2Ghz, 1800+ (more than enough power there to play modern games)
Consoles: PS2, Gamecube, Sega Genesis, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Atari
HandHelds: Sony Clie, Gameboy (original old school gray one), Assorted single-game handhelds.

I've got over 100 PS2 games.... none of the other systems are that high, but suffice it to say I have a minimum of 5 games for each system.

SOCOM and SOCOM II don't have **** on games like Duke 3D and Doom... or the most classic of all Wolfenstein 3D... Why?? For one reason, they aren't the same game... sure they're shooters... but that is all that's similar... beyond that they are different... You have CPU controlled teammates watching your back... that makes the game easier... You should have compared them to one of the 007 games or Red Faction or even Enter the Matrix would have been closer. (yes I own every one of those games)..

I enjoy racing games.. I've got NFS Underground and Underground 2, SRS, GT3, GT4, Ridge Racer V, XGRA, ATV and ATV 2 along with Ford Racing and a couple of others... Again these games don't compare (for me) to Mario Kart.... I have more fun playing it than I do the others...

My Sega get's more use than my gamecube and ps2 (the three systems hooked up in my room)... I play old school wrestling games and Sonic... Sonic provides hours more fun than anything else... When I have friends over we play Super Smash Brothers and Super Smash Brothers Melee.. again... much more fun that sitting as a group and playing say Unreal Tournament (then we'd need multiple machines, etc)

Just because you have more fun with mindless games, doesn't mean everyone has too.. each person has their own tastes... I personally love Doom.... I love Quake as well in fact I refused to touch Quake 2 and Quake 3.... some of us prefer the older games.. I could care less how many polygons are in each frame, or how many frames per second I can get...

I get a kick out of Eternal Lands.... a free online MMORPG or whatever that damned acronym is... and the graphics are very basic in it.. but it's multiOS and I love it...

I have a friend at school when we get bored during work or class we sit and play FreeCiv...

A friend of mine who is a hardcore top of the line gotta have the best gamer is completely addicted to Frozen Bubble after I showed it to him

I still maintain a few BBS accounts to play L.O.R.D and I've got zork and the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy on this PC.... Those are all text based games... no graphics.. and I love it... they're a lot of fun.

People still play boardgames, even though things like trivial pursuit now have DVD versions, so why not games...

People that have to have the latest games (and usually play them for 5 minutes... unless they're the socially inept that I mentioned in another post) only want those games for one reason.... so they can claim that their dick is bigger than everyone elses... Who cares what games you play... or if you play games... As long as you are entertaining yourself.. that's all that matters.

    Peace,
    HT

I though I was going to get the sack after I found that in Knoppix.

I don't think any game that has come out in the last few years has made much of an impression on me. the last game I spend hours on was Alpha Centauri. Games I really remember working at for hours were things like North and South, Stunt car racer, lemmings, Populous etc on the Amiga and Myth, Target Renegade, Starglider on the Spectrum (treasure Island Chucky was good).

It's probably an age thing where you remember things being better than they were.
