for starters there could be about 65645413498764464 things wrong and we would have absolutley no idea. how about you tell us what you have tried so far, and a few more details like the equipment you use (routers, switches, hubs, firewalls, server hardware, connection tupe)

    maybe then we can help.

i've tried to reinstall the norton personal firewall but this occurs when i've tried to setup zonealarm. and then my configuration on zonealarm was a bad one. then i uninstall it. when i restarted, the problem begins. i've used nmap and it tells me that some ports are open. and i cant view my website anymore since it is hosted in my box. i think there is no problem in my routers or swtiches.

    well which ports are open?

    is port 80 open?

chances are that if installed a firewall and it stopped working, then you uninstalled it and it worked, then reinstalled it and it stopped working the problem is your firewall being misconfigured. open port 80.

    Hi Yatot
XTC46 makes a good point. the problem seems to lie with your firewall based on the information you have provided. In general, with all troublshooting problems (regardless of what technology is involved) the main aim you should go for is to first of all identify when it was last in a working state and undo any changes you have made since that point. I am not saying it will cure all problems, but if you apply some logic to the situation you can generally get yourself out of these situations (and port 80 would probably be your killer in this situation).

If you are working with operational/production environment, configuration control and change control are pretty vital concepts. Check out some of the links and publications available on this site - http://www.itsmf.org.au/, if you are interested (warning: pretty dry stuff, really aimed at the large organisation).

    Hope this helps

woi! thanks a lot for the help and the advices. and yeah i figured out XTC46's statement that if port 80 is open. while am doing some scans on the nmap some ports are actually open. then i got back into my previous configurations and sumthing is missing. i restored my firewall's defaults and by that port 80 was closed since the firewall doesn't know if the box has a webserver in it or dont.
so what i did was i got into my firewall settings then exceptions and added port 80(http). then, as soon as i ok'd all the windows. my site is up once again. also, i added up some tcp/ip filtering in my firewall.

for all of you who's expert on these might give me a fair reaction but i tell u it was an addition to my knowledge.

once again..thanks to you AO people.
