Came across this announcement I thought I would share. The WC3 has produced a recommendation XML Key Management Specification (XKMS). Basically produces an advantage of making key management a web service and essentially making it transparent to the application utilising it.

From what I can see it helps address some of the issues with setting up a large scale PKI structure. Still only a recommendation at this stage, will be interesting to see if it progresses.
