FROM THE DESK OF:MR ZEB MANTABANI
    DEPT OF TRANSPORT
    REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA,

    Dear Friend,

    (PRIVATE/CONFIDENTIAL).

I am Mr.Zeb Mantabani a director in the department of transport gauteng
province Republic of South Africa. Forgive my indignation if this
message comes to you as a surprise.

AS IT MAY INTEREST YOU TO KNOW, I GOT YOUR IMPRESSIVE INFORMATION
THROUGH THE INTERNET SEARCH HERE IN SOUTH AFRICA. I FASTED AND PRAYED FOR
THREE DAYS BEFORE I DECIDED TO CONTACT YOU TO BE MY PARTNER.

I have decided to contact you on this project that will be very
beneficial to both of us.During our auditing in this department,I came
across some amount of money belonging to a deceased foreign contractor in the
    department:
Mr.Sheu Yuan-dong who died with his wife and their only daughter on February
    16,1998 in a plane crash.

His file has been dormant in this department without any claim of the
fund in our custody from his relation before my discovery to this
    development.
The said amount is U.S $26.426.00(TWENTY SIX MILLION FOUR HUNDRED AND
TWENTYSIX THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS).I want you to know that I never
    master
minded the death of the deceased fellow. Their death occured Naturally.
    Please View the website below:

    http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9802/16/taiwan.crash.update2/

FOR YOUR INFORMATION BEEN YOU NOT A TAIWANESE WILL NOT POSE ANY PROBLEM
FOR THE SUCESSFUL TRANSFER OF THIS FUND INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. All
arrangements to claim this fund as the Bonafide next of kin to the deceased
    has been
put in place and directives will be relayed to you as soon as you
indicate your interest and willingness to assist me and also benefit your
    self
    from this great business opportunity.

In this country as a civil servant,we are not allowed to operate a
foreign account. This is the actual reason why it will require a second
    party
or fellow who will forward claims as the next of kin to this department
and also present a foreign account where he will need the money to be
    re-transferred into on his request.

The law stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after seven
years, the money will be transferred into the state treasury as
    unclaimed funds.
The request of a foreigner as next of kin in this business is
occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner.

I as a native of south Africa cannot stand as next of kin. I dont want
this money to go into the state treasury as unclaimed Bill. Be assured
this transaction is 100% risk free. In conclusion of this Project, you will
be entitled to 40% of the total sum as gratification, while 60% will be for
me.Please you have been adviced to keep this as a "top secret" as I am still
    in service
and intend to retire from service after I conclude this deal with you.

I will fly down to your country for the sharing of the fund according
to percentages indicated above and further investments will be discussed.
On your acceptance to be my partner, please email for a brief discussion
    before we proceed.
Please keep this proposal secret, even if you dont want to assist me.
I look forward to receive your urgent reply.

    Yours faithfully,
    Mr. John Karabo.

I have been getting these in my email for a few days now. First thing I noticed is that they are not even addressed to me or my email address. I know it a scam and all but I was wondering if there was an agency that I could turn this into for futher evaluation.

    Hey,

Have you noticed that the guy actually forgot his name from the introduction to the sign-off

Most of the links seem to be spoofed, so I doubt if reporting it will do any good.

If you cannot do someone any good: don't do them any harm....
As long as you did this to one of these, the least of my little ones............you did it unto Me.

There are several new 4-1-9 SPAMS floating around. This is one of them. Others include a well written plea from a British banker and a "urgent" message from the king of Nyrobi.

On an nice twist, Nigeria is finally starting to deal with this. I didn't know (but found out at a conference -- so not sure how true it is) that the 4-1-9 scam is the 2nd industry in Nigeria as far as monetary importing is concerned

This type of phising is so common that it has its own name Nigeria 419 scam.
Do use the 'Search' function to see if the topic has already been created, nothing personal, just to avoid repeated/same topic posts.

    Cheers

During the 80's, I had reason to visit Nigeria, and I thought the main industry for bringing money into the country was 'dash' ???

Sort of like a tip ..........with a twist.

To get INTO a taxi, you had to dash the man.
to get into the hotel, you had to dash the man.

All I know is, I was damn glad it was a business venture, and I could write it off as 'expenses'

Yea.... I had some South African poser send me some crap like that.... I replied asking how this got past my Spam blocker...... He replied with a very large email explaining that it was not spyware... and he was very serious & had dedicated alot of time to this. Shortly after.... some Chinese banker tried the same thing..... They both got flamed like witches during a witch hunt..... I haven't had anymore?
