    Post few hosting questions

    Hi all!

I'm working on a web site for my client. Unfortunately, my client has already paid for a web hosting and I have several problems with them. So maybe somebody can help.

    1. How is it possible, that when I try to open http://aj-partner.com my clients web pages are opened, but when I try to open https://aj-partner.com a completely different page is opened?

    2. Anyone knows how to run something like mod_rewrite on IIS server? I'd like to use it as I normally do, but usually are my script placed on linux servers. And the hosting guy doesn't know how to solve this problem.

    3. Last thing - when I tried to open http://www.aj-partner.com/stats/ a login box should appear. But the only thing I get is an error message HTTP error 401.3. This is probably also some sort of IIS thing, but it looks like I'm the only one getting this error. The hosting guy doesn't know what to do. Again:0

    Anybody could help?

    Thank you very much!!

Hosting configuration. The server doesn't know how to handle HTTP-S requests for this domain.

No clue, but it sounds like you're right. That host is clueless. If it's free hosting, the client is paying too much. If they can't answer simple questions, how well is the server going to be protected?

I'd go look at a few like www.bluehost.com or www.pair.net or www.godaddy.com. This host is probably more trouble than they are worth, for the client AND you.

Couldn't agree more with you there zencoder!
I'd even go as far as to say, terminate that contract but move the site befor you do so

Thank you for your answers. So to make it clear to myself:

Hosting configuration. The server doesn't know how to handle HTTP-S requests for this domain.
So the server is not well configurated, right?

LMFAO he can't even fix your login ??
Yes, it seems like this is a problem. Other thing is, that it really looks like everyone gets the right screen, but me. Maybe I have something misconfigurated on my pc. But - I tried Opera (both win a linux version), IE 5, IE 5.5, IE 6 and Firefox and stilll no success.

I'd like to. The problem is, that my client has already paid for this hosting so he wants to stay for at least on year.

Right, that's my best off-the-cuff answer.

Odd's are good it's not you. Tried it from other locations (such as a system at the library, etc.)?

I'd like to. The problem is, that my client has already paid for this hosting so he wants to stay for at least on year.
Well, I guess you have to consider if it's worth it to you. Ask yourself:

How much time are you going to spend dealing with this hosting provider, trying to resolve issues that you should never see with a properly configured and administered host?

Are you billing for all of this time?

Is it worth it, even if you ARE billing?

Is your client getting what he paid for?

I'm curious who this ridiculously inept host is. You don't have to tell (names changed to protect the guilty and all that), but it would be interesting to know.

    Thank you for answer!

I've tried it from my desktop and from my server. I have WXP installed on my desktop and on server there is a slackware. But I haven't tried it from completle another location. But my friend tried to log from his home and he succeeded. I'd try today from my other client and let you know.

It's definitely not worth to me. But problem is that - client has already paid for a whole year. I haven't seen the contract, but I doubt there is and offer for mod_rewrite etc., so the contract probably can not be canceled due to unsufficient services.

So the soulution would be probably - stay this year. And as soon as possible change the hosting company. I have one favourite hosting that I reccomend to my clients so... But the last verdict is up to my client.

And btw try www.n-r.cz - you will be surprised
