    GreyMatter Related or Random

    Hey Hey,

As some of you know, my website is http://www.seeminglyrandom.info and it's basically a blog....

I just received an email notifying me that I had a comment to one of my blog entries...

A comment has just been posted to entry #21 (Out of Hot Water).

    Name: 3 (IP: 66.98.148.79)
    E-Mail: dddd4@viagra4u.info
    Homepage: http://www.viagra4u.info

    Comments: http://www.viagra4u.info

Here are the log entries related to it

    66.98.148.79 - - [21/Jul/2005:23:27:03 -0400] "POST /cgi-bin/gm-comments.cgi HTTP/1.1" 302 255 "http://www.seeminglyrandom.info/archives/00000021.html#comments" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"

    66.98.148.79 - - [21/Jul/2005:23:27:06 -0400] "GET /archives/00000021.html HTTP/1.1" 200 17712 "http://www.seeminglyrandom.info/archives/00000021.html#comments" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)"
So basically my question is, is someone searching for GreyMatter and specifically posted to it with a script... or is this spamming done by hand. Those were the only two references to the offending IP Address in the log...

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

    Peace
    HT

PS: If you're wondering why I posted here.. It's because this is software I use that is related to the development of my website and I'm wondering if I should change the software I use... or if it was just a hand generated attack.

Comment spamming is very prevalent in the blog-o-sphere (godDAMN I hate the word Blog.) There are a large number of scripts and plugins written to help defeat it.

I use WordPress, and am a big fan of Spam Karma. Not sure if it's been ported to GM or any other platforms, but its only one of many solutions.

Nothing special about those comments. Typical fair. They will start to increase in number and frequency, just as email spam does.
